When I met Keith Morris. He’s the frontman of the band OFF! - he is largely known for being the vocalist on the Black Flag EP ‘Nervous Breakdown’, and also for being in the band Circle Jerks. He was a very distinctive character. I was interviewing him for Sound Influx (HERE), the music/art blog I currently write for. He was hard to follow at times, maybe because I was slightly nervous, and he was quite confident in that American way where, they can pause for a while, and return to a point - my British reserve was instantly trying to fill the silence whenever he stopped talking, in case it got awkward, which ultimately made it more awkward as he was totally not like that.
I asked him to pose fo a photo for the blog, and he did this. Quite him. He was very sure of himself. For a man of 57, it is remarkable that he is still playing punk gigs and doing exactly what he wants with his life. Gives me hope that I could be like that by his age - still myself, still productive, still energetic, still living life to its full potential. The only way to live.
Diablo Coats is in the back, the guitarist - he was really cool too. They were constantly throwing band names at me, to see if I liked them - mostly ‘classic’ rock bands from the ’70s - a genre and decade I largely have managed to avoid. I gave them a Cheesus Crust Records ‘†’ Mixtape. I hope it finds fun times, and they remember me for it - like a momento, perhaps. I don’t know. I don’t think they’d remember ‘some kid we met in Manchester’ very well. But we’ll see.
Was good to have met him. I wont forget it.
